How to Transfer to the Orange Line From the Blue Line

Washington D.C.'s "Metro" is an underground and above-ground rail system that stretches through the city and into parts of Virginia and Maryland. There are four lines -- the red line, the yellow line, the green line and the orange line. You can transfer among lines, including from the blue line to the orange line, at specific stops.

Instructions

    • 1

Get on Metro at the last stop on the orange line at Vienna-Fairfax-GMU. Board the orange line train headed toward New Carrollton. This stop is indicated on the front of the train.

    • 2

Ride until the ninth stop, Rosslyn. This is your first transfer stop on the orange line, which also happens to be a transfer point to the blue line. Get off the train. You have two options for traveling on the blue line; you can go toward Franconia-Springfield or toward Largo Town Center. The blue line trains are labeled with one of these two stops.

    • 3

Stay on the train at Rosslyn if you miss the stop or you want to keep riding. Because you are on the orange line train toward New Carrollton, each stop after Rosslyn is a transfer point for both the orange- and blue-line trains; you can get off at any stop on the orange line on your way to New Carrollton and transfer to the blue line.
