How to Use Hooks or Straps to Breach Doors

In case of a fire or emergency, it is often necessary to breach a locked door. Most doors can be opened by simply breaking the door along the lock or hinges. But barred doors are another matter. They offer homeowners added security protection and are much more difficult to breach. The only way to remove a breached door is to attach a hook or strap to it and pull it off.

Instructions

    • 1

Read the instructions that come with your tow strap. Attach the hook to the tow strap with a secure knot. If the hook is already attached to the tow rope or you have no hook, move on to the next step.

    • 2

Tie the tow strap directly to a tow hook or D-ring attachment attached to the hitch according to manufacturer's instructions. If you do not have a D-ring, you may tie the tow strap directly to the hitch. Do not tie the tow rope around the trailer hitch ball. If you do not have a hitch, attach the tow rope directly to the rear of the frame of the vehicle. Do not attach the tow rope directly to the bumper, axle, suspension or steering rod.

    • 3

Attach the hook to the door's bar or tie the other end of the tow strap around it.

    • 4

Drive forward to breach the door and pull it off of its hinges.
