Measure the length and width of an undamaged step. Transfer the measurements to the new piece of plywood.
Cut the the plywood with the circular saw.
Place the piece of plywood onto the runner of the step and secure with nails or deck screws at each corner. Fill in the additional positions along the framed wood with deck screws or nails every eight inches.
Measure all of the windows and doors. Remove all shudders and other ornate decorations.
Measure the length that will be needed to cover the windows for the plywood as well as the 2 by 4. The 2 by 4 will be used as the securing wood.
Secure the 2 by 4 to the house with the deck screws. Screw the properly measured plywood to the 2 by 4s covering the windows to keep the window and/or door safe from storm damage. Continue this process with the other glass openings.
Measure and cut four pieces of plywood that measure 24 inches long and 10 inches high.
Cut two sections of the plywood that measure 25 inches by 25 inches.
Attach one of the pieces of plywood that measures 24 by 10 to another. Use three wood screws. Continue connecting these until you have a box that measures 24 inches by 24 inches.
Attach one of the 24 by 24-inch platforms to the top or bottom of the box. Repeat with the open end. This will create a rectangular box that is very sturdy. Apply pieces of remnant carpet to the portion that will be the top of the platform.
