How to Install a Jet Fence on a Delta Saw

Delta and Jet are two different power tool manufacturers. Both offer table saws with accurate fence systems. Although the systems are similar in function, there are differences in the designs. Delta offers the Biesemeyer fence system, whereas Jet has the Xacta and Accu-Fence. If you have a Delta saw but would prefer to use an Xacta or Accu-Fence, you can install a Jet fence on a Delta saw in a couple of hours with some common tools.

Things You'll Need

  • Jet fence kit
  • Tape measure
  • Pencil
  • Cordless drill with bits
  • Socket set
  • Open-end wrenches
  • Allen wrenches

Instructions

    • 1

Align the front L-bracket from the Jet fence kit with the front edge of the Delta table saw. The protruding portion of the L-bracket should be on the bottom, pointing toward your body. The lower portion of the L-bracket should be 2-3/16 inches down from the tabletop. Once the bracket is in position, scribe the hole locations through the holes in the bracket onto the side of the table saw.

    • 2

Insert a 5/16-inch drill bit into a cordless drill, and drill the hole locations in the front of the table-saw table you marked in Step 1. Next, mount the L-bracket on the front of the table saw, using the bolts, washers and nuts supplied with the fence kit. Verify that the distance from the top of the saw table to the top of the lower portion of the L-bracket is consistently 2-3/16 inches along the entire front edge of the saw. Tighten the bolts and nuts with a socket set and open-end wrenches.

    • 3

Position the rear L-bracket against the back side of the saw table, once again with the protruding portion of the L-bracket on the bottom, pointing away from the saw. The top of the protruding portion of the rear L-bracket should be approximately 2 inches down from the top of the table. Mark the hole locations with a pencil on the rear edge of the saw table, and then drill the holes and mount the rear bracket as you did the front bracket in Step 2.

    • 4

Position the rectangular tubing over the front rail. The threaded holes in the bottom side of the tubing should match the predrilled holes in the lower protruding portion of the L-bracket on the front of the saw. Hand-tighten the bolts with the lock washers that were provided with the kit.

    • 5

Measure the distance between the front edge of the saw table and the edge of the rectangular front tubing. Adjust the tubing so that the measurement between the tubing and the front edge of the table is consistent, and then tighten the bolts with an open-end wrench to lock the tubing in place.

    • 6

Place the fence on top of the table saw, with the locking mechanism in the front resting on the rectangular tubing. Attach the fence's threaded handle. Slide the fence left and right along the saw, and push down on the handle to lock the fence in place.

    • 7

Check to see if the fence is level, riding just a hair above the saw table in the back and the front. If it needs to be raised or lowered in the back, adjust the height by loosening the nut on the height adjustment foot on the back side of the fence, and then rotating the foot clockwise to lower or counterclockwise to raise the foot. Tighten the nut to lock the foot in place.

If the front needs adjustment, rotate the height adjustment screw on either side of the locking mechanism with a Phillips screwdriver. Rotate each screw the same number of turns to ensure that the fence stays level across the front rail.

    • 8

Align the left edge of the fence with one of the saw's miter slots, and lock the lever. Visually inspect the edge to see that the fence is perfectly parallel with the miter slot along the entire edge of the fence. If an adjustment is needed, release the lock and lift the fence off the saw. Turn the fence over, and locate the two adjustment screws on the back side of the front T-brace behind the locking mechanism. Turn the screws as needed, and then replace the fence on the rails, lock the lever and test again.
