How to Remove the Blade Guard Rod on a Craftsman Table Saw

The Sears Craftsman table saw is equipped with a blade guard which serves two important functions. The integrated pawls grip pieces of stock to prevent kickback and the clear plastic saw guard prevents flying debris from reaching the eyes of the operator. The unit is attached to the saw by means of several solid round steel pins. If you need to remove any of these pins to enable repair or clear trapped bits of wood, you will need two common tools to accomplish the work.

Things You'll Need

  • Small slotted screwdriver
  • Ball-peen hammer

Instructions

    • 1

Unplug the saw from the wall outlet. This will prevent any accidental starting while working on the blade guard.

    • 2

Locate the rod you wish to remove. The rods (pins) will be found on both ends of the guard support (part number 62395) and the front of the spreader assembly (part number 62580). All three will be secured on each end with push nuts (part number 60208).

    • 3

Slip the tip of the screwdriver under the flange of one of the push-nuts and gently pry it loose until it is free.

    • 4

Place the tip of the screwdriver against the end of the rod (pin) and use your hammer to gently tap it out.
