How to Glue Plywood

Building any type of furniture or decorative wood object often requires plywood. Glue applied between sheets of plywood creates a stable and sturdy bond. The process of gluing plywood is not difficult and, if done properly, provides a bond that can last for years. Adding small nails or screws increases the stability of the joint. Gluing plywood requires clamps to hold the pieces together while the glue sets.

  Spread wood glue across the surface of one sheet in a zigzag pattern, moving from one end to the other along the path where the two pieces will join.

  Spread the glue with a paintbrush to ensure proper coverage of the joint.

  Press the second piece onto the first. Secure the joint with clamps. A C clamp secures two pieces sitting parallel to each other. Corner clamps hold two pieces positioned perpendicular to each other. Attach a clamp 6 to 8 inches for longer pieces. For drying time, see the recommended times listed on the glue container.
