How to Repair Wood Dresser Slides

Wooden dresser drawer slides are found in quality wooden furniture pieces. Although your dresser drawers may be in poor working order, you can repair them. One common problem with dresser slides occurs when screws loosen with normal use. Additionally, as the factory finish wears off, the slides may not glide as well as when they were new. However you can effectively solve this problem with a little bit of occasional maintenance on your drawers.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the drawers from the dresser and set them aside.

    • 2

Examine the slides on the inside of the dresser frame. Tighten any loose screws on the slides with a screwdriver.

    • 3

Sand the corners of the slides lightly with 120-grit sandpaper using even strokes back and forth with the grain of the wood. This will help remove any imperfections in the wood caused by the drawers rubbing against the slides.

    • 4

Rub paste wax onto the slides with a cloth rag. This will allow the drawers to move freely on the slides in the dresser without any friction.
