Instructions

  1. How to Make Crown with a Router

    • 1

Insert the crown molding edge bit into the router in the router table and lock it in place. Adjust the height of the bit and fence so it will trim off the profile of the bit into a 1-inch by 3-inch board.

    • 2

Place the board on the router table with the 3-inch side flat and the 1-inch edge against the fence. Run the board through the router in a steady, even motion. Run the opposite edge on the same 3-inch side of the board through the router in the same manner.

    • 3

Remove the crown molding edge bit and insert a molding bit into the router. Adjust its height to cut the full profile of the bit into the 3-inch side of the boards.

    • 4

Position the board with the 3-inch-wide side opposite the crown molding edges you routed in Step 2 flush against the fence. Ensure the 1-inch edge is flush against the router table. Run the board through the router to rout the decorative edge for the crown molding.

    • 5

Sand all surfaces of the molding board with fine-grit sandpaper. Repeat Steps 1 through 5 to make as much crown molding as necessary for your project.
