How to Make a Soap Display Shelf

Decorative soaps should be displayed in your bathroom in an attractive manner, such as on a shelf. Although you could purchase the shelf, you can also make your own. The shelf can be made from any hardwood and stained or painted. If you have a lot of soaps to display, consider making multiple shelves.

Things You'll Need

  • 8-by-18-inch hardwood board, 1 inch thick
  • Router
  • Decorative-edge router bit
  • Sandpaper, fine-grit
  • Tack cloth
  • Wood finish
  • Paintbrush
  • 2 decorative metal shelf brackets, with screws

Instructions

    • 1

Create decorative edges for your shelf by routing three sides of an 8-by-18-inch board. Rout the two 8-inch edges and one 18-inch edge.

    • 2

Go over the routed edges with fine-grit sandpaper until they are completely smooth.

    • 3

Wipe the edges with a tack cloth to remove any sanding dust.

    • 4

Brush a coat of wood finish on the board with a paintbrush. Allow the finish to dry for 72 hours before handling.

    • 5

Attach two shelf brackets to the bottom of the board, 2 inches from each end. Attach the other ends of the brackets to the wall, in the spot where you want your decorative shelf to go.
