How to Cut Bowl Blanks on Table Saw

Making projects from wood is both satisfying and productive. Bowl blanks represent the rough cut pieces of wood from which woodworkers will eventually turn bowls. Creating these blanks will often require the use of a power tool, such as a table saw. The table saw allows you to create a blank that will easily fit onto a lathe, which is the tool used to actually create the bowl. Bowl blanks can be from a variety of wood, depending on the style you want to create.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the bock of wood from which you will cut the blank. Mark the depth of the cut using a square and tape measure.

    • 2

Set the table saw’s blade height. Use the tape measure to set the cutting depth. Turn the dial on the front of the table saw to move the blade.

    • 3

Adjust the table saw guide for setting the depth of wood to cut. Twist the locking mechanism to the left, move the guide and lock the guide by twisting the locking handle to the right.

    • 4

Turn on the table saw. Pass the block through the saw. Turn the block over and cut the opposite side of the block to finish the cut.

    • 5

Turn off the table saw. Measure the block to ensure the cut matches your previous measurements.
