DIY Wheels for a Band Saw

No wood shop is complete without a functional band saw. Band saws are large saws that have a metal band with teeth. This looped band is driven on two wheels and provides uniform cuts due to the evenly spaced teeth. The single disadvantage of a band saw is its bulk and size. Band saws rest on two flat plates that sit flat on the ground. As a result it is extremely difficult to move your band saw. However, it is not difficult to modify your band saw by adding rolling wheels to the bottom of these plates.

Instructions

    • 1

Make sure your band saw is unplugged.

    • 2

Tilt your band saw over and rest it on its side.

    • 3

Examine the size of the bolts that protrude from the top of the wheels you are going to add on and make sure you have a drill bit that roughly matches that size.

    • 4

Insert the drill bit into your drill and then drill four holes in the four corners of your band saw's flat plate.

    • 5

Insert the bolt on top of the wheel assembly through the bottom of the hole you just drilled.

    • 6

Slide a washer on and then the bolt to tighten down the wheel assembly. Tighten the bolt with your wrench and then attach the other three wheels in the same fashion.

    • 7

Lift your band saw to the upright position and then plug it back in.
