Using a Tool Rest

• A tool rest holds your tool in place and keeps it snug up against the wood object that you are manipulating with the lathe. You must properly set up your tool rest so that it properly supports your tool and is close enough to your object, which makes it easier to manipulate and use your tool. Always securely fasten your tool to your tool rest before you start working.

Components

• The JWL-1442VS VS Pro benchtop lathe comes with a cam-lock mechanism. This system helps you to adjust your lathe components, including your tool rest base, headstock and tailstock, without using any exterior tools. The tool comes with rubber feet to keep it from moving while you are working. The headstock can move up to 360 degrees, and this includes both 90 and 45-degree angle positive stops. The wood lathe also has a tailstock, which helps you create long holes; the tailstock has a 3/8-inch hole through the middle of it.
