How to Store Lacquer Thinner

Lacquer thinner is extremely flammable. When you use it, the escaping vapors from the open container present a continual fire hazard. Always be sure to turn off all sources of heat, sparks and flame around lacquer thinner. When it's time to store this combustible liquid, the same dangers are still present. The gas is now trapped inside the lacquer thinner's can, and they must be kept well clear of anything that may ignite it.

Instructions

    • 1

Place and secure the lid on the lacquer thinner. Always store lacquer thinner in its original can. Do not pour any lacquer thinner you have dipped a brush or rag into back into the main supply. It is now contaminated.

    • 2

Wipe any drips off the can, using a rag moistened in warm water. Wash the rag with soapy water before allowing it to air dry. Rags saturated with lacquer thinner present a fire hazard as they dry.

    • 3

Store the can in a cool, dry place that remains between 32 and 90 degrees Fahrenheit at all times. Place the can far from any source of heat, flame, spark or the reach of inquisitive children.
