Use a sheet of 3/4 inch plywood on a pair of saw horses to create a pingpong table. Sand the plywood smooth and prime it to seal the surface. Add a coat of green paint and some white tape stripes for an official look. Pingpong paddles, nets and balls are available at most sporting good and discount retail stores. When your game is over, set the table top against the wall to reclaim the garage or basement space.
A 3/4 inch plywood top and shelf combined with an inexpensive and easy to make 2-by-4 frame and legs will provide you with a work bench stout enough for any do-it-yourself project. Build two rectangles the same size, one for the top, one for the shelf. Pass the legs through notches in the corner of the shelf and fasten it to the legs about 12 inches above the floor with long drywall screws. Fasten the plywood top on to finish the work bench. Standard work bench height is 36 inches, or adjust to suit your work style.
Cut side panels and shelves from 3/4 inch plywood and fasten them together to make a lightweight book shelf. Fasten 1-by-2 lumber along both edges of the shelves for even more strength. Typical shelves are 10 to 12-inches deep. Make your shelves 48-inches wide or narrower for best results. Single shelves can also be mounted on wall brackets to provide storage anywhere.
Draw your favorite holiday icons on thick plywood and paint them in bright colors. Cut the decorations out with a jigsaw and add hinged plywood panels to the back to make them self-standing. These rugged decorations will last through years of yard display. Bore holes with a cordless drill and fit lights into your creations from the rear for added color. Add sharp wooden stakes to the bottom for anchoring your holiday display in place.
