How to Router Your Own Baseboards

Insert the molding bit into the router chuck in the router table. Tighten it with the router's chuck wrench by turning it in the opposite direction of the router's rotation while holding in the lock button.

Adjust the height of the bit to rout the full profile of the bit into a 1-inch thick board. Lock the bit in place with the locking lever on the router.

Position the router table fence so that it will rout the full profile of the router bit into the board and lock it in place.

Lay each board, one at a time, with the 1-inch by 96-inch side flat against the table of the router table. Hold one 6-inch by 96-inch side flat against the fence. Turn the router table on and guide each board through the router in a steady motion just fast enough to allow the bit to cut the profile into the board.

Sand each routed edge of the boards with a fine-grit sanding pad in the same direction as the wood grain until it's completely smooth.
