How to Clear a Heat Stain on a Polished Wood Table

Polished wood tables complement any décor and add timeless beauty to homes. Heat stains, however, never enhance wood furniture. Setting hot objects such as clothes irons and food dishes on polished wood dries out the wood fibers, marring wood tables with white heat stains. Heat stains leave polished wood tables appearing less than desirable and may even lower their value. However, lightly scorched wood tables are restorable and heat stains are generally removable.

Instructions

    • 1

Aim cool air from a blow dryer's nozzle onto the heat stains, holding the blow dryer 4 to 6 inches from the wood. Direct cool air onto the heat stains for about 15 seconds.

    • 2

Gradually increase the blow dryer's heat, while keeping the airflow on the wood until the heat stains begins to disappear. Remove the heat stains with the blow dryer as much as possible.

    • 3

Inspect the wood table for remaining heat stains. If any heat marks remain, dip a soft rag in wood paste wax.

    • 4

Rub the remaining heat stains vigorously with the paste wax until they disappear. Follow the table's grain lines while rubbing the stains.

    • 5

Wipe excess paste wax residue off the table using another soft rag. Buff the table to a shine.
