Minwax High Performance Wood Hardener restores strength to rotted or damaged wood. The wood hardener is a resin based product that penetrates the wood pores and evaporates to form a hard resin to prevent wood from breaking or deteriorating. The wood hardener is stainable, giving you a variety of options for colors and finishes. Wood hardener is helpful in restoring antique furniture, reclaimed wood, banisters, decks and railings. You can also fill any dents or imperfections with stainable wood putty after using the hardener.

Instructions

    • 1

      Remove any broken or brittle wood from the area with a putty knife.

      Use a tack cloth to wipe away any dirt or debris.

      Shake the can of wood hardener to blend the mixture; open the can with a paint key.

      Use a paintbrush to saturate the damaged wood area. Continue applying coats of the hardener until the surface of the wood becomes shiny.

      Allow the hardener to dry for at least two hours.

      Apply wood filler to any large dents or voids in wood with a putty knife. Allow the filler to dry at least two hours.

      Use sandpaper to sand the filler smooth and wipe away any dust with a tack cloth.

      Apply the first coat of stain with a rag; allow the stain to dry according to manufacturer's directions. Sand the wood lightly and wipe away dust with a tack cloth before applying a second coat.
