Instructions

    • 1

Pour 1 quart of mineral spirits into the paint container. Set the container to the side for the moment.

    • 2

Measure 7 ounces of linseed oil into a metal cooking pot. Put the pot on the stove, turn on the heat and heat the oil until it boils. Remove the pot from the heat and add the oil to the mineral spirits in the paint container.

    • 3

Mix 4 ounces of paint into a mixing container and blend well. Use only 4 ounces total of paint, mixing smaller amounts of paint colors to achieve the tone you want to use. Pour the paint into the paint can.

    • 4

Stir the ingredients in the paint can until they are thoroughly blended. Apply the stain with a paint brush and give it several hours to dry.

    • 5

Make a larger quantity of stain by combining the stain ingredients in the same proportions. For example, to make about 2 quarts would require using 2 quarts of mineral spirits, 14 ounces of linseed oil and 8 ounces of paint.
