How to Repair Chips on Mahogany Wood

Solid wood furniture and fixtures are a beautiful addition to any home. Like most pieces of furniture, mahogany is likely to chip and become scratched with age. With proper maintenance and repair, wood furniture may be preserved for years and restored to like-new condition. You can repair chips and scratches in mahogany with materials found in your local crafts and hardware stores.

Things You'll Need

  • Small rags or towels
  • Soap
  • Disposable model paintbrushes
  • Clear or amber epoxy resin
  • 600-grit sandpaper

Instructions

      Clean the chipped area of the mahogany thoroughly with soap and a cloth. Dry the area completely with a dry cloth.

      Drop one or two drops of resin into the chip. Allow the resin to cure completely for at least 24 hours.

      Add one or two drops of resin to the chipped area each day until the chip is filled slightly above the surface of the wood.

      Sand the resin lightly until it is flush with the surface of the wood.

      Paint or stain the wood if desired.
