Removing Hot Steam Marks From Wood Surfaces

When wood surfaces are exposed to an excess amount of heat or steam, such as when hot food items are placed on the wood, it can result in white stains on the surface. Not only is this a problem aesthetically, but enough heat stains can actually cause damage to the surface of the wood. When confronted with these heat stains you can solve the problem on your own with common household items. Removing the stains will only take a few minutes.

Instructions

    • 1

Dab a cloth with wood cleaner and wipe down the wooden surface thoroughly. Dry the surface thoroughly with the other side of the cloth.

    • 2

Plug your iron into a power outlet near the wooden surface and allow it to heat up.

    • 3

Place another cloth over the area of the surface with the stain. Make sure the cloth is large enough to cover the entire stain.

    • 4

Place the iron over the cloth and set it to high heat and steam.

    • 5

Press firmly down on the iron and work the cloth over the stained area in circular motions. The heat and steam, filtered through the cloth, will begin removing the stain.

    • 6

Check the stain to see if it is gone and repeat the steps as necessary until it is.

    • 7

Remove the iron and cloth and dry the wooden surface area thoroughly to remove any moisture.
