How to Repair Marks on Wood Cabinet Doors

Wood cabinetry's longevity and versatile design make the cabinets common in kitchens. Although extremely durable, wood cabinets are susceptible to various blemishes that leave marks on cabinet doors.   • 2 ounces vinegar
  • 2 ounces boiled linseed oil
  • 2 ounces gum turpentine

Instructions

  1. Repair Scratch Marks

    • 1

      Moisten a clean cloth with water. Wipe the scratched portion of the cabinet to lift all grime.

      Wipe the scratched wood with a towel. Thoroughly dry the scratched portion of the cabinet.

      Dip another cloth in paste wax. Choose a paste wax that best blends with the cabinet’s hue.

      Rub the wax over the scratched cabinet following the wood’s grain. Completely fill the scraped area with paste wax. Let the wax fully dry.

      Wipe the dried excess paste wax off the cabinet using another cloth. Gently buff the cabinet door until the repaired wood blends with the surrounding wood.

    Repair Heat and Moisture Marks

      Moisten a clean cloth with water. Wipe the marked portion of the cabinet to lift all grime.
      Thoroughly dry the marked portion of the cabinet.

      Pour 2 ounces of vinegar, boiled linseed oil and gum turpentine into a container. Mix the ingredients together.

      Moisten another cloth in the mixture. Gently rub the heat or moisture marks with the mixture. Follow the cabinet’s grain lines.

      Continue rubbing the cabinet door with the mixture until the mixture warms and the white marks disappear.

      Buff the cabinet door with another cloth to restore luster. Do not rinse off the mixture, but rather blend it into the surrounding wood.
