# How to Keep a Wooden Chair From Squeaking
The cause of a squeaky wooden chair is usually loose parts, such as the dowels, legs or anywhere the chair pieces connect together. Tightening the pieces may make some difference in decreasing the squeakiness, but, to completely eliminate the sound, the joints need to be completely tight. Using a special solution that soaks into the wood and helps to seal and tighten the wood fibers is most effective at firmly connecting the chair pieces.
Things You'll Need
- Old towel
- Phillips or flat-head screwdriver
- Wood swelling solution

Turn the chair over on a work surface or on top of an old towel placed on a counter or the floor.

Inspect the chair for any loose legs, dowels or other pieces securing the chair together. Wiggle each part of the chair to see if any part is loose.

Tighten any loose parts with the appropriate screwdriver or push the piece back in until it is securely tightened.

Squeeze the wood swelling solution evenly around each piece where it connects into another piece. Apply the solution around where any dowels connect with the legs, where any dowels connect into the base or where the legs connect into the base.

Let the chair sit for at least one hour to allow the solution to dry.
