How to DIY Mirrored Panels on Doors

A mirrored door is a space saver, freeing up wall space for other decorations. It also reflects the light in a room, making the space feel larger than it is. You can install mirrored panels on doors whether they are solid core or hollow, but the installation techniques are going to be slightly different for each type of door.

Things You'll Need

  • Door mirror panels
  • Drill
  • Drill bit
  • Hollow core anchors

Instructions

    • 1

Measure where you want the panels to go. For a professional look, the panels should be centered on the door -- top, bottom and sides. Mark the top and bottom spots on the door with a pencil.

    • 2

Insert your door anchors. For hollow core doors, you will need to use hollow core anchors. Drill out a hole using a bit sized for your anchors. Press the anchors into place. Solid core doors can have the mirror clips screwed directly into the wood. You will need to insert at least four anchors -- one for each corner of the mirror, and preferably two additional anchors for the centers of the mirror at the top and bottom.

    • 3

Insert the mirror clips to create the frameless, paneled look. These will hold the top and bottom of the mirror and are designed to be unobtrusive. Screw these clips through the door anchors or directly into a solid core door. The bottom of the clips should be flush with the door, but not tightened all the way.

Attach the mirror by inserting the mirror into the mirror clips. Slide the mirror sideways through the clips. They won't be tightened yet, so don't let go of the mirror.

Tighten the mirror clips. Use a screwdriver and gently tighten up the screw located on each mirror clip. Do not over-tighten or the mirror will break. Just tighten them enough to securely hold the mirror.
