How to Repair a Clamping on a Pedestal Table

Pedestal tables are attractive space-saving tables for breakfast nooks, kitchens and small dining rooms. Over time, the clamping joints between the base and tabletop can become loose and require repair. You can repair a loose joint on the pedestal table by regluing it. Loose parts can weaken the integrity of the table. It is important to make repairs to loose clamping joints on pedestal tables to prevent further damage to the table.

  • Putty knife
  • Wood glue
  • 2 bar clamps
  • Damp cloth

Instructions

      Turn the pedestal table upside down so the tabletop is resting flat on a work surface.

      Slide a putty knife between the loose parts on the table to separate the two parts of the joint enough to squeeze wood glue into it.

      Squeeze wood glue into the loose joint and slide the putty knife out from between the two parts. Press the parts together.

      Stand the pedestal table upright. Spread the bar clamps open and center them over the wooden parts. Squeeze the clamps to tighten the parts back together.

      Wipe off any excess glue that oozes out from the joint with a damp cloth. Allow the wood glue to dry for 24 hours and remove the clamps.
