Score along the seams of the window trim surrounding the interior of the wooden window frame using a utility knife. This will break the wood finish seal between the trim and the window frame.

    • 2

Slide a flat bar underneath each length of window trim and pry it gently from the window frame. Pull each length of window trim out from the inside of the window frame.

    • 3

Release the buttons on the upper window sash and pivot it outward toward you. Turn the window sash to one side as you pivot it toward you and pull it out of the window opening. Set the sash aside. Remove the bottom sash in the same manner.

Score, with a utility knife, around the window trim surrounding the window frame opening where it butts flat against the wall.

    • 5

Slide a flat bar underneath each length of molding that you scored around in Step 4. Gently pry the trim off from the wall surrounding the window frame opening. This will leave the sides around the window frame exposed.

    • 6

Pull out any stray nails from where you have removed the trim boards with a nail puller.

    • 7

Slide a reciprocating saw between the exposed sides of the window frame and the window opening. Saw down along each side of the window opening to cut off any nails that hold the window frame in place. Saw through the center of the window sill at the bottom of the window frame.

Insert the flat bar between the sides and sill of the window frame and pry the window frame out of the window opening. Carefully remove the window frame and set it aside.

Remove the stray nails left in the window opening using a nail puller. Brush the window opening clean with a wire brush. Clean up the finer dust and debris with a shop brush. The window opening is now prepared for the glass block installation.
