How to Install the Replacement Wheels on an Andersen Screen Door

An Andersen screen door provides you with the ability to let a breeze into your home without letting in the bugs. The door contains a wheel assembly on each side of the door in the same way that a sliding glass door does. Over time, and with constant use, the wheels wear, and the door becomes harder to open and close. You can purchase replacement wheels at most home improvement stores, and the installation procedure should take you less than an hour.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Open the screen door partially and grab it on both sides with your hands. Push the door into the upper track and pull the bottom out of the lower track. Remove the top from the upper track, and lay the door someplace where it will be convenient to perform the repair.

    • 2

Loosen the adjustment screw for the wheel being replaced by turning it counterclockwise with a Phillips screwdriver.

    • 3

Squeeze together the sides of the old wheel assembly, using a pair of needle-nose pliers. Pull out the wheel assembly from the door frame.

    • 4

Insert the new wheel assembly into the door frame where the old one was removed. Push the assembly into the frame until it snaps in place. Spray the wheel with a spray lubricant and make sure it turns freely. Turn the adjustment screw until it is about halfway inserted. Repeat the installation procedure for the other wheel.

Grasp the door with one hand on each side. Insert the top of the door completely into the top of the door frame. Push the bottom into the lower track and drop it in place. Open and close the door, and turn the adjustment screw to make minor adjustments until the door rolls smoothly in the track.
