How to Change a Sliding Screen Door

A sliding screen door enhances the functionality of a patio door by letting in breezes and keeping out bugs. Repairs, such as new screen, spline and rollers, can be made to an old door to rejuvenate it, but there may come a time when an old sliding screen door needs to be replaced with a new one.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the old screen door halfway.

    • 2

Place one hand on either side of the door and lift it as high as the top will insert into the upper track.

    • 3

Pull out the bottom of the door from the lower track.

    • 4

Remove the top of the door from the upper track.

    • 5

Spray a lubricant on the upper and lower tracks and wipe them with paper towel to clean them of dirt and debris. Spray another application of the lubricant on the tracks to help the door slide more easily.

    • 6

Hold the new door with a hand on either side. Ensure that the handle is on your left side as you are facing the door frame.

    • 7

Set the top of the door into the upper track as far as it will go and push the bottom of the door over the bottom track. Drop the bottom into the lower track. Open and close the door to test how it slides. Make minor adjustments to the adjustment screws on the rollers using a Phillips screwdriver.
