How to Seal Window Screens

When a window screen becomes damaged, debris and insects have a free pass into your home whenever the window is open. While you may be concerned about the screen's replacement cost, window screen installation requires just a few cheap, simple-to-use tools. You seal the screens in place with a thin piece of rubber called a spline, which is pushed into the groove around the screen's edge. A properly installed spline seals the window screen in place, but it's easy to remove in case you need to replace the screen again.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the spline's loose end in the window frame's corner, over the screen. Use your finger to push about 2 to 3 inches of spline into the groove.

    • 2

Place the spline roller's blade into the groove, on top of the spline. Push down on the roller to embed the spline in the groove. Roll the spline down the groove while pushing to seal that side of the window screen.

    • 3

Cut the spline off with a scissors when you reach another corner. Use a flat-head screwdriver to push the spline into the corner. Begin a new piece of spline in the corner and push it into the groove with the spline roller until you reach the next corner.

Continue to install spline until the window screen is sealed in place on all four sides.
