Measure the width and length of the frame where the single pane of glass is being replaced using a tape measure. Take the measurements to your local hardware store to have a piece of glass cut to the correct size.
Scrape out old putty and debris from the frame using a utility knife. Use the knife gently to avoid gouging the frame.
Set the glass pane into the frame and place a bead of window putty glaze beginning at a corner and continuing around the entire perimeter of the glass. Roll the putty between your hands to soften it and form it into a roll. Place the roll of putty so it is partially on the glass and partially on the frame.
Apply mineral spirits to a putty knife using a rag. Use the edge of the knife to smooth the putty into the crevice between the glass and the frame. Keep the knife wet with mineral spirits to help form the putty. Scrape the putty knife toward the outer edge of the frame around the entire perimeter. Scrape unwanted putty off the glass after it dries using a razor blade.
