How to Replace a Narroline Sash

Andersen replacement windows have several user-friendly features. Their Narroline line of replacement windows is no exception. One of the features allows quick removal and installation of the sash should you need to replace it due to breakage. The sash uses a cord much like the old style windows. However, instead of disassembling the entire frame, it is only necessary to disassemble one small piece of the frame. Replacement sashes are available through Andersen dealers and Home Depot.

Instructions

  1. Removing the Sash

    • 1

Lower the top sash. Remove the two screws on the left jamb liner with a Phillips-head screwdriver. The jamb liner is the track that the upper and lower sash travel in when raising and lowering the sash.

    • 2

Raise the top and bottom sash. Remove the screws near the bottom of the left jamb liner. Hold the top of the left jamb liner with one hand and pull the bottom of the liner away from the window frame with your free hand. Completely pull the liner away from the window.

    • 3

Lower the bottom sash completely. Pull the left upper corner of the bottom sash toward you with one hand and hold the sash cable with your free hand. Pull down on the sash cord and pull the end pin of the cord out of the side of the sash. Allow the cord to retract into the frame while maintaining a steady grip. Once the cord stops, release it.

    • 4

Repeat the removal of the sash cord on the right side of the sash. Slide the sash to the left enough to allow grabbing and releasing the cord. Pull the sash out of the window. If the top sash needs replacing, remove it in the same way.

    Installing the Sash

    • 5

Place the sash into the opening, allowing enough space on the right side to reconnect the sash cord pin. If replacing both sashes, install the top sash first. Grab the right-side sash cord 6 inches from the end and pull it down to the sash. Insert the sash cord pin into the side of the sash and slowly release the cord.

    • 6

Push the right-side of the sash into the right jamb liner track, leaving the left side of the sash protruding from the window frame. Pull down the left-side sash cord and insert the sash cord pin into the sash. Push the sash into position in the window.

    • 7

Raise both sashes to the top of the window. Slide the left jamb liner against the left window frame. Push the liner into place and line up the screw mounting holes. Install the two securing screws near the bottom of the liner.

    • 8

Lower both sashes and install the securing screws into the upper part of the left jamb liner. Raise the upper sash.
