Instructions for the Installation of a Baldwin Lock

Keyed cylindrical locks secure doors from government offices to truck stop restrooms. Before you begin installation of a Baldwin keyed cylindrical lock at your home, locate the prep, a hole about 2 3/4 inches wide, on the face of the door. The lock body goes in this hole. At the same point on the door, there should also be a hole on the edge for the latch. This hole should go all the way through to the large hole for the lock body on the face of the door. There should be a rectangle cutout for the trim around the latch hole.

Instructions

    • 1

Insert the latch assembly into the latch prep so that the curved edge of the latch faces the frame. Use a number two or number three tip in your drill and secure the latch in the faceplate with two provided screws.

    • 2

Slide the outside lock assembly into the large prep hole on the face of the door. Align the square drive tube at the center of the outside lock assembly with the square hole in the latch body and push it through until the outside lock assembly becomes flush with the door.

    • 3

Align the "V" groove on the bottom of the inside lock adapter assembly as you insert the center over the square drive tube. Fasten the inside lock adapter with two provided screws by tightening them into the outside lock assembly with your Philips screwdriver or a drill and Philips tip.

    • 4

Twist the rose, the round cover-plate that fits over the inside adapter assembly, clockwise over the inside adapter assembly until it is firm and flush against the face of the door.

    • 5

Slide the knob or lever over the spindle of the inside adapter and tighten the set screw with an Allen key when it is in the proper position.

    • 6

Install the strike plate on the door frame in the strike prep, at the same height as the latch on the door; the strike-plate secures the latch. Use the drill with the number two or number three tip to tighten the screws and secure the strike plate.

    • 7

Check the lock for proper function.
