How to Take Off a Weslock Bedroom Doorknob

Removing a doorknob on a bedroom door to replace it with a new one is often a straightforward task. Normally, you see the attaching screws on the inner doorknob plate. However, some manufacturers, including Weslock, hide the screws behind the inner doorknob plate. Taking off a Weslock bedroom doorknob is a bit more involved than just separating the two knobs from each other. It is necessary to disassemble the inner knob from the door so you can access the main screws.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the bedroom door so you have access to both doorknob handles. Look for a slit on the neck of the inner doorknob on the latch side of the door. Insert a small flat screwdriver into the slit, pushing the spring clip into the neck of the knob.

    • 2

Pull the inner doorknob with your free hand until the spring clip is under the sleeve of the doorknob. Pull the doorknob completely away from the door.

    • 3

Find the slot on the inner doorknob rose plate. Insert the screwdriver into the notch and pry the plate away from the door. Once you remove the rose plate, the securing screws will be visible.

Remove the two screws on the inside mounting plate with a Phillips screwdriver. Pull the mounting plate away from the door and pull the outer doorknob of the Weslock away from the door.

Take out the screws securing the Weslock door latch plate to the edge of the door and the screws securing the strike plate to the door jamb. Pull the latch assembly out of the door and pull the strike plate away from the door jamb.
