Measure the height and width of the window with the tape measure. Round the measurement up to the next foot. Make a note of the height and width of the window.
Measure from the top of the blind to where the tassel will be located. Make a note of the measurement.
Add the measurements from step 1 and step 2. Add 3 feet to this measurement for the length of the string you will need.
Pull the cord of the shade tight and then remove the shade from the window. Tie the shade with a string at the left, middle and right to prevent the shade from expanding.
Cut the old string or cord off of the shade with the scissors.
Detach the plastic end caps form the shade. Pry these off by using the screwdriver. Push on the top rail to the side that has the cord lock. This will separate the top rail from the shade.
Insert the restringing tool into a hole on the top of the shade and run it to the bottom. The tool needs to go through all of the holes in the shade.
Place 3 to 4 inches of new string into the restringing tool. Pull the new string through the shade. Place a washer over the end of the string at the bottom of the shade. Tie a knot on the end of the string to secure the washer.
Place the top rail back on the shade. Slide the top rail until you have 12 inches of rail left. Position the restringing tool into the cord lock. Pull the restringing tool through the cord lock and then slide the end of the top rail into place.
Place the end caps back on the shade and push to secure. Remove the string that was tied to the blind in step 4.
