How to Fix a Torn Screen Door

Remove the screen door by unscrewing the screws that secure the hinges to the door frame. Have someone help you by holding the door while you remove the hinges. Remove the door closer or chain by unscrewing them from the frame. Place the door on two sawhorses placed 4 to 5 feet apart and parallel to each other.

Pry out the rubber spline that secures the screen to the door using a flat-head screwdriver. Start at the upper right corner; this location most likely is where an end of the spline is found. Once a few inches of spline is pried out, grab it with your hand and pull it up and away from the screen. Pull off the screen once all the spline is removed.

Center the new screen on the door.

Press the end of the spline over top of the screen and into the channel in the door frame. Start at the top right corner. Ensure there is no slack in the spline and the screen stays flat without wrinkles. Use a spline tool to press the spline over top of the screen and into the channel around the perimeter of the screen.
