How to Adjust the Hinges for Andersen Frenchwood Patio Doors

Although Anderson Frenchwood hinged patio doors are an attractive alternative to a sliding door, they do come out of adjustment occasionally. This usually occurs when the frame settles over time or because of expansion and contraction of the frame due to weather. If the door is out of alignment, it does not close or operate correctly, but you can set the door right again by adjusting the hinges. The hinges have adjusting screws for the horizontal and vertical gaps.

Instructions

    • 1

Close the Anderson Frenchwood patio door, and locate the two position fixing screws where the hinge mounts to the door frame. The position fixing screws are the two screws with hex heads. There is also a smaller, horizontal adjustment screw between the position fixing screws which is also a hex head.

    • 2

Turn each position fixing screw one half-turn counterclockwise on all hinges with a hex wrench. Determine which hinges require adjustment by looking at the gap between the door frame and edge of the door. In most circumstances, it is necessary to make small adjustments to all of the hinges.

    • 3

Rotate the center horizontal adjusting screw counterclockwise to increase the gap between the door and door frame, using a hex wrench. To decrease the gap, turn the horizontal adjustment screw clockwise. For example, if you have a larger gap near the top and very little gap at the bottom, you would turn the top adjusting screw clockwise and the bottom adjusting screw counterclockwise.

    • 4

Continue making adjustments to each horizontal adjusting screw until the gap is even down the length of the door frame. Tighten each of the position fixing screws once adjustments are made. Turn each horizontal adjustment screw clockwise until they are snug once the position fixing screws are tight.

Turn the bottom hinge vertical adjustment screw clockwise one half-turn with a hex wrench. The vertical adjustment screw is directly under the barrel of the hinge where the hinge pin is. Continue turning the screw until gap at the top of the door is even with the gap at the bottom of the door.

Rotate the next hinge vertical adjustment screw clockwise with the hex wrench until the door moves up slightly. Immediately turn the screw counterclockwise a quarter-turn. Repeat for all hinges.
