How to Open Craftsman Garage Doors With No Power

Although a garage door with a Craftsman door opener is convenient, the opener isn't of much use during a power outage. Fortunately, garage doors that have an automatic opener are still operable even when the power goes out for a brief time. Opening Craftsman operated garage doors with no power requires disconnecting the door trolley from the opener carriage. This process requires no disassembly of the opener arm connecting from the door to the opener. Once disconnected, the door is operational manually until the power is restored.

Unplug the Craftsman door opener power cord from the ceiling outlet to prevent it from operating if the power comes back on while you are away or the door is open. If necessary, place a step ladder under the opener head so you can reach the power cord plug to disconnect it from the outlet.

Pull the emergency release rope straight down with your hand. The small trolley arm that the rope hangs from should be in the vertical position.

Go to the garage door and grab the handle at the center of the bottom section. Lift the door open and operate manually until the power comes back on.
