How to Fix Small Scratches in Tempered Glass

Large storefront windows, oven glass and coffee pots are all made from tempered glass, which is reinforced for greater safety. When punctured or broken, tempered glass breaks into pebbles instead of shattering into sharp, dangerous shards. Though tempered glass is stronger than standard glass, its surface can still become scratched. To restore the shine and transparency to your tempered glass surfaces, all you need is some polishing equipment and window cleaner.

Polishing compound
Buffing pad
Electric buffer (optional)
Microfiber cloth
Glass cleaner

Instructions

  Apply a liberal amount of polishing compound to a handheld buffing pad. If you are removing a large area of scratches, you may wish to use an electric buffer for faster results.

  Buff the scratched area using a rapid, circular motion and firm pressure. If you are using an electric buffer, move the pad gradually across the scratched area.

  Check your progress by wiping the compound off the glass with a microfiber cloth. Reapply more compound to the pad or electric buffer as needed.

  Wipe the area clean with your microfiber cloth once the scratches are no longer visible. Spray the tempered glass with glass cleaner and wipe dry with a paper towel.
