Instructions

    • 1

Take the metal door off the hinges using pliers to pull out the pins and/or a screw gun to unfasten the hinges. Set the door on a table or workbench in a well-ventilated area.

    • 2

Put on safety glasses and use a grinder to knock off the loose rust, grinding down to the bare metal. Exercise caution when using the grinder, always keeping a firm grip and never touching the grinding pad.

    • 3

Wipe the metal door down with damp rags to remove the dust and allow it to air dry.

    • 4

Open a cold weld kit and mix equal parts of the liquid steel with hardener in a mixing bowl, then stir together with a spatula.

    • 5

Apply the cold weld mixture to the bottom of the metal door where the rust was present using the spatula, then let dry as long as directed by the manufacturer.

    • 6

Apply a coat of metal primer using a paintbrush, let dry for three to four hours, then paint the metal door with a matching color paint and allow to dry completely before rehanging it.
