How to Make Bifold Doors Close Tightly

Bifolds are often the door of choice for laundry rooms and closets. These doors fold open, usually allowing more room to enter than sliding room doors provide. A problem that sometimes arises with bifold doors, however, is when the two separate panels do not meet tightly in the center of the doorway. You can always close this gap between the two folding panels yourself.

Instructions

Open and close each panel of the bifold doors, looking to see if one or both need to be adjusted to close the gap between the two.

    • 2

Slightly open one of the panels. Grip the door handle, if there is one, with one hand and hold the door with the other hand. Lift up on the door, pushing up on it. Tilt the bottom door bracket out of its slot and pull down on the top of the door, removing it from the top bracket also.

Loosen the adjusting screw in the top bracket, found inside the door track. Use a Phillips screwdriver. Slide the bracket slightly in toward the center of the door frame. Tighten the bracket adjusting screw with the screwdriver. Push the door panel back up into the top bracket.

Slide a book underneath the bottom of the door panel to hold it up. Loosen the bolt on the bottom bracket, which is on the floor, with an adjustable wrench. Slide the bracket slightly in, toward the center of the door frame. Tighten the bolt, using the wrench.

Remove the book. Repeat this process with the other bifold door panel, bringing the two panels in tighter when you close them.
