How to Fix Buckling Bifold Doors

Bifold doors should slide closed smoothly, with each panel fully extending across half of the door frame to meet the other frame in the center. If the space between the two panels of the bifold doors is too tight, the doors will not fully open to close the gap between them and will end up buckling outwards. Make slight adjustments, usually to both panels of the bifold doors, to create enough space between the two.

Instructions

    • 1

Fold one of the panels open. Press one hand on each side of the panel and push the panel up into the top track. Lift the hinge pin on the bottom of the panel out of the bottom bracket at the same time.

Lean the bifold door panel carefully against the wall. Locate the screw in the bracket found inside the door's top track. Loosen this screw, using a Phillips screwdriver. Slide the bracket slightly towards the side door jamb away from center. Tighten the bracket screw with the screwdriver.

Twist the bolt on top of the bottom bracket counter-clockwise, loosening it with an adjustable wrench. Slide the bottom bracket towards the side door jamb and tighten the bolt back into the bracket using the wrench.

Position the door panel so that the top hinge pin fits into the top bracket. Press down on the panel's upper guide roller and install the top of the panel into the top track. Push up on the door and insert the bottom hinge pin into the bottom bracket.

Repeat this same process with the other bifold door panel, creating more space between the two panels which allows them to completely shut without buckling.
