How to Remove the Bottom Pivot of a Bi-Fold Door

Bifold doors have two pivots on each of the folding panels. Each pivot is located in the corner of the door, with one on the top and one on the bottom. Each pivot fits into a bracket, providing the stability for the panel as the panel roller slides along the top track, opening and closing the door. Remove the bottom pivot if you are disassembling the door or making a repair to the door hardware. The easiest way to access the bottom pivot, especially when you work alone, is to take down the panel.

Lift up on the door and swing the bottom pivot out of the bracket on the floor. Lower the door to remove the top roller from the track, and the top pivot from the top bracket. Carefully lay the door on the floor.

Grip the bottom pivot with your hand and pull it out of the door. Twist the pivot counterclockwise to extract it if it is threaded into the door. If you are also removing the plastic sleeve that the pivot sits in, pull it out with needle-nose pliers.
