How to Repair the Glide on a Bi-Fold Door

The guide door on bi-fold doors slides along an overhead track, using either a plastic or a metal roller to keep it secured on the track. This roller is the door glide. Normally, you don't need to adjust the glide, as most bi-fold door concerns are with the doors closing tightly or being properly aligned. However, repairs to the spring-loaded glide might arise. Repair the glide without any professional assistance to restore the door to smooth sliding.

Things You'll Need

  • Small pry bar
  • Replacement glide

Instructions

    • 1

Push the guide door up against the overhead track, and tilt the pin on the other door out of the bottom bracket. Lean the top of the guide door down and away from you, removing the door.

    • 2

Pry a broken glide out of the top of the guide door, using either your hand or a small pry bar. Replacing the broken glide is easier than attempting to repair it. Press a replacement glide into position, using your hand. Tap the glide gently with a hammer, if necessary, to seat it fully into the hole.

    • 3

Stand in the doorway, outside of the closet or room, holding the bi-fold doors. Place the bottom door pin into the bottom bracket. Grip the doors with one hand, and press the glide down into the top of the door.

    • 4

Continue pressing the glide down as you fold the door in just a little bit. Move the top of the door into position directly underneath the overhead track. Insert the top pin into the top bracket.

Release the glide, allowing it to spring up into the track.
