How to Fix a Door Hinge That Pulled From the Frame

The only components that secure door hinges to the door frame are screws. These screws must not only support the weight of the door but also prevent the door hinges from shifting. If enough pressure is applied to the hinges, the screws can pull away from the frame and damage it. Fortunately, this problem can often be solved with a straightforward and inexpensive solution.

Things You'll Need

  • Screwdriver

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the hinge still attached to the door frame while an assistant holds the door in place by removing the screws that secure the hinge to the frame with a screwdriver.

    • 2

Apply wood glue to the tip of a wooden golf tee.

    • 3

Tap the tee into the stripped screw hole within the door frame with a hammer and allow the glue to dry.

    • 4

Trim the exposed portion of the tee with a utility knife until the remaining portion of the tee is flush with the door frame.

    • 5

Drill a small pilot hole into the center of the golf tee.

    • 6

Position the door hinge against the door frame and tighten the hinge screws through the golf tees.
