How to Remove an Escutcheon Plate from a Baldwin Door Knob

Making adjustments or repairs to the Archetype line of Baldwin locksets requires removing the escutcheon plate from the door. Archetype door knobs resemble antique door levers with large, distinctive decorative designs on the faceplate and an inside door knob with an equally distinctive escutcheon. The escutcheon mounts to an inner plate that helps secure the front of the lockset. Removing an escutcheon plate from a Baldwin door knob is similar to removing some standard door knobs.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the door halfway so that you have access to both sides of the door. This also helps prevent locking yourself inside the room by accident.

    • 2

Remove the set screw securing the inner door knob to the spindle, using a hex wrench. The set screw points to the floor under the neck of the door knob. Pull the door knob away from the escutcheon plate.

    • 3

Rotate the thumb handle for the deadbolt counterclockwise to fully extend the deadbolt.

    • 4

Turn the screws securing the escutcheon plate to the mounting plate counterclockwise, using a Phillips screwdriver. Pull the escutcheon plate straight off the door. The deadbolt thumb handle stays on the escutcheon plate.
