How to Lower & Raise Sliding Doors

Sliding glass doors move back and forth along wheels in their lower track. If your sliding door moves back and forth with difficulty, it is either too high or too low on the wheels. A quick adjustment of the sliding glass door's wheels will allow the door to glide back and forth much easier. Many sliding glass doors also need to be lowered before you can remove the door from the opening.

Locate the plastic plug that covers the sliding door's adjustment screws. This plug will either be located on the sliding door's interior edge or on the interior side of the door. Some sliding doors may have two plugs, which are usually located at the top or bottom door edge.

Insert a flathead screwdriver into the plastic plug's slot. Turn it counter-clockwise to back it out of the door, much like a regular screw.

Insert the flathead screwdriver into the opening left behind by the plastic plug. Feel around inside the opening until the screwdriver's head rests in the adjustment screw. Turn the screwdriver a half-turn, counterclockwise to lower the door or clockwise to raise the door. Repeat this step with the second adjustment screw if necessary.

Slide the door back and forth along the track to see if it moves easier. Once you are pleased with the door's movement, insert the plastic plugs back over the adjustment screws and tighten them with a flathead screwdriver.
