How to Attach a Doorway Jumper

Doorway jumpers are seats attached to a flexible cording that entertains babies and promotes leg strength. They are installed in the top frame of a door opening and hover just above the floor, so that babies can push off with their feet to bounce. Properly attaching a jumper to the doorway is critical for ensuring proper functioning and safety. Most jumpers have clamps that secure to the frame and hold it in place.

Instructions

    • 1

Inspect doorways in the home to locate one that is not near steps, hot surfaces or any other area where babies might be injured.

    • 2

Look at the door’s top to ensure there is a doorframe around the opening. Place a step stool in the doorway if needed to access the top of the door molding. Measure the distance from the wall to the outer edge of the molding, ensuring it is at least one-quarter inch thick. Repeat the process on the opposite side of the door opening.

    • 3

Stand inside the door opening and measure the width of the doorframe’s top, which must be between 3 and 6 inches wide. Refer to your specific jumper instructions for the proper doorframe measurements.

    • 4

Grasp the clamp on the jumper, which is located at the top of the flexible cord. Pull the clamp apart approximately 3 inches or enough so you can slip it up over the doorframe.

    • 5

Slide the clamp over the doorframe’s top center until the tips of the clamp rest on the frame’s one-quarter inch ledge. Release the clamp and then pull down on the flexible cord to ensure the clamp is tight.
