How to Get Moisture Out of Dual Pane Glass

Depending on the weather outside, it is possible for moisture to accumulate between the glass panes of your dual-pane windows. This usually occurs after years of living with the windows. In these instances, many people simply replace the windows with new ones. However, if you want to save your windows, you can get rid of the moisture.

Things You'll Need

  • Power drill with 1/8-inch bit
  • Spray bottle
  • Clear tape
  • 2 lengths of plastic tubing
  • Glass cleaning solution

Instructions

    • 1

Drill a hole slowly and carefully through the top corner of one window pane. Spray the tip of the drill with water as you go to maintain a cool temperature for the drill bit.

    • 2

Drill a hole through the opposite bottom corner of the same window pane.

    • 3

Allow the moisture between the panes to dry. This could take a day or two. If there are residual stains on the glass then proceed to the next step.

    • 4

Insert a length of plastic tubing (thin enough to fit in the drilled hole) into the top hole.

    • 5

Fit a separate length of plastic tubing into the bottom hole on the pane.

    • 6

Funnel your cleaning solution in between the panes via the top tube. Fill it enough to coat the stained or dirty area between the panes. You can direct the solution over these areas by moving the tubing from side to side from the outside end.

    • 7

Siphon the excess solution out of the bottom area between the panes with your bottom tubing.

    • 8

Remove the tubing and allow the area between the panes to dry.

    • 9

Place clear tape over the drilled holes. Puncture it with pins for ventilation. This will help keep the insects out.
