How to Make Vinyl Window Assemblies Slide Better

Once a vinyl window begins to stick and move roughly when opened and closed, it becomes a nuisance. Before it fails to slide, the window may begin to squeak when you try to slide the moving panel, or sash, along the casement or assembly. Squeaking and sticking indicate a need for lubrication. Lubricating the sash can end squeaking and help the window slide more easily. Use the proper lubrication technique to avoid damaging the vinyl.

Instructions

    • 1

Slide the window into the closed position.

    • 2

Spray furniture polish into the crevices where the sash rests inside the casing. Hold a dry cloth near where you spray so the cloth will catch and absorb excess polish.

    • 3

Wipe a dry portion of the cloth along the crevices to force some of the polish deeper into the crevices and to remove excess polish.

    • 4

Slide the window into the open position, and use the cloth to wipe the end of the sash that was previously covered by the casement. Continue sliding the window along the casement, either back and forth or up and down, to spread the polish where it is needed to lubricate.
