The Columbia sliding door consists of two glass panels -- one fixed and one that slides on tracks built into the top and bottom of the door frame. The fixed panel can be mounted to either the left or right side of the door frame -- depending on which side you wish to enter and exit your home from. The sliding panel operates on rollers built into the bottom of the door. The upper side of the door glides along the upper door track.
A screen panel can be purchased for your Columbia sliding door as an option. The screen door completely fills the open space in the door frame when the sliding section of the door is opened. To enter and exit the home, the screen door can be slid on rollers -- much like the rollers on the glass panel -- back and forth on the tracks as needed.
In order to make installing the screen door easier, it is necessary to retract the rollers built into the bottom edge of the door completely. This can be done by twisting the adjustment screws on the bottom of the door with a Phillips screwdriver in a clockwise direction. Then lift the door upright and tilt the top of it toward the top of the door jamb. Once the top of the door is inserted into its track on the outside of the frame, the bottom of the door can be swung toward the opening until the rollers line up with the track on the bottom of the door frame. The door can then be lowered until the rollers rest on the tracks.
Once installed, the rollers on the screen door must be adjusted so that the door is level and rolls easily back and forth on the track. First, twist the roller adjustment screws counterclockwise to raise the door. This ensures the top of the door will not come out of the upper track. Next, make sure the door is level. Slide the door on its rollers until it is almost closed. Leaving a small gap between the vertical edge of the door and the door jamb will let you observe at a glance if the door is level. The gap should be the same width from top to bottom. If it is not, adjust the low side of the door upwards until the gap is the same width from top to bottom.
