Locate the opening and closing limit adjustment screws, which are usually mounted on the side of the housing of the garage door opener. Note that there should be one screw for adjusting the closed position of the door and one screw for adjusting the open limit of the door. Note that adjustments should be made in small increments and the operation of the door should be tested before continuing.
Twist the up limit screw in a clockwise direction with a flat-blade screwdriver if the door opens a few feet but stops before it reaches the fully open position.
Twist the down limit screw in a counterclockwise direction if the door reverses automatically when it reaches the fully closed position.
Twist the down limit screw in a clockwise direction in the door does not close all the way.
Locate the force adjustment screws, which are usually mounted on the back of the housing of the garage door opener. Note that there should be one screw for adjusting the downward force of the door and one screw for adjusting the upward force of the door. Note that adjustments should be made in small increments and the operation of the door should be tested before continuing.
Increase the upward force of the door if it opens slightly and stops by twisting the upward force screw in a clockwise direction with a flat-blade screwdriver.
Close the garage door with the opener. Grasp the bottom of the door when it is approximately halfway through its downward movement. Note that the door should reverse easily and go back up. Twist the downward force screw in a counterclockwise direction if the door does not reverse.
Increase the downward force by twisting the downward force screw in a clockwise direction if the door reverses unintentionally when it reaches the bottom.
